Widening project on Knox County road canceled, county to fix road

We have an update to a story we first told you about Monday on Mountain News.

Knox County judge executive J.M. Hall tells us the widening project by Girdner Mining along Hubbs Creek Road is now cancelled.

Judge Hall says the county did not like new stipulations the mining company wanted to add to a temporary agreement and decided to end it.

The county will now fix the damage and return the road to its original state.

The road was closed back in early July for the project and has not re-opened.

Hall says the restoration project should not take too long.
