Significant snow and ice accumulations expected tonight and Thursday
An area of low pressure will track through the Tennessee and Cumberland Valleys tonight and Thursday.
Precipitation will begin as snow Wednesday evening then mix with and change to sleet and freezing rain around midnight. The precipitation will then mix with and change to rain as temperatures warm above freezing Thursday morning.
Travel will become difficult tonight into Thursday. There is also a significant threat for power outages as ice accumulates on trees and power lines.
Winter Storm Warning is in effect to 10am Thursday for the following areas:
Bell, Knox, McCreary, Wayne, and Whitley Counties.
A winter storm warning now in effect through Noon Thursday for the following areas:
Clay, Harlan, Jackson, Laurel, Leslie, Letcher, Owsley, Perry, Pulaski, and Rockcastle
Winter Storm Warning through 4 pm Thursday for the following areas:
Breathitt, Floyd, Johnson, Knott, Lee, Magoffin, Martin, Morgan, Pike, and Wolfe Counties.
