Driver killed in Bourbon Co. after falling asleep behind wheel

BOURBON COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) - Family members of Linda Evans, 59, say she was just a mile from home when she fell asleep behind the wheel, ran off the road and slammed into a tree.

The Bourbon County deputy coroner says the crash killed her instantly about 3 o’clock Saturday morning.

"It's awful, anybody whose life is taken like that it's awful," said Edna Taulbee.

She lives about 50 feet from the stretch of Cane Ridge Road where Evans crashed.

"All at once there was a boom and it woke me up and I looked out the window and I saw a car," she said.

She says when she realized there had been a car accident she called for help and ran to the car.

"She was slumped down in the seat and her head was bloody," she remembered.

She says it didn’t take long before she recognized the bleeding woman as Evans, her neighbor.

Bill Taulbee also lived next to Evans. He says he knew her for 45 years and was used to seeing her nearly every day.

"She rode in my truck yesterday," he said.

He says Evans had four grandchildren and several of them lived with her.

He says it’s hard to imagine that she’s gone and all that’s left in her place is the shattered glass scattered on the ground where she crashed.

The deputy coroner says she wasn't drinking and driving and she was wearing a seat belt.

The family says they are still working on her funeral arrangements.
