A man is dead and his girlfriend is charged with murder after a hit and run in Clay County.

Police say the man was hit around 1:30 this morning in the Burning Springs Community.

After police began investigating the incident, they found that the driver knew the person she hit. They say it might have been on purpose.

Ella Boyd lives on Highway 421 between two curves. She says accidents happen here all the time, but none have ever been fatal until now.

"I had heard something about two hours prior to that and I walked out on the porch and looked and didn't see anything," said Boyd.

Boyd came back outside when she heard emergency sirens about an hour later.

"So I started walking right up through there, and i got almost to the fence and i seen a body," said Boyd.

35-year-old Mike Hacker was found on this bridge.

"The victim was lying apparently 50 feet from the point of impact," said Clay County Coroner Danny Finley.

The coroner says the victim Mike Hacker was walking down Highway 421 when he was hit by a car. That car then drove away.

"And I don't know what happened, what made him walk, who hit him," said Boyd.

As police started investigating, they went to Hacker's girlfriends house. They found damage to her car consistent with a hit and run.

Hacker's girlfriend 44-year-old Marita Sizemore was arrested and charged with murder.

"It was a true tragedy and my heart goes out to his family," said Boyd.

Szemore is being held in the Clay County Detention center.

Hacker died from multiple blunt traumas.
