Severe weather looks likely on Saturday afternoon. The best chances appear to be between 2 p.m. Saturday and Midnight. Damaging winds, large hail, heavy rain, and an isolated tornado or two are possible. The area at the greatest risk for severe weather in eastern Kentucky is in the Cumberland Valley, near the I-75 corridor. Keep it locked here for updates.
One woman is dead after she flipped her car early this morning in Harlan County.
It happened on Highway 522 in the Ross Point community.
45-year-old Wilma Rigney of Putney was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police say she was not wearing a seat belt, and her vehicle airborned 70 feet in the air.
"Mrs. Wilma Rigney had been ejected from her vehicle and was pinned underneath it. It appears she left the southbound side of the roadway, hit a gravel road embankment, and flipped her vehicle," said State Police Trooper Brian Maupin.
Police say they are not sure what caused Rigney to crossover the centerline and wreck.
