Woman pleads guilty to one count of animal cruelty

A Laurel County woman facing 57 counts of animal cruelty charges pleads guilty to just one of them.

Tammy Rummell entered the plea in Bell County District Court Monday.

As part of her sentence, Rummell will serve 90 days probation and is not allowed to have animals in Bell County for two years.

Purrfect Pets in Middlesboro was closed this summer after authorities found a variety of animals in the store without air conditioning or water.

Animal control officials determined the shop had been without electricity for a week.

Rummell also had a pet shop open in London this summer.

She said she had plans to close it.
