On a seemingly ordinary Friday night, two employees of the Dollar General store in Warfield were closing the store, but things were far from normal.

As they walked outside to lock the door, a man with a knife approached them.

"They didn't see where he came from, came out of nowhere. Seems like he possibly could have been hiding outside the store somewhere waiting on them," said Martin County Sheriff Garmon Preece.

The women were carrying a bank bag containing an undisclosed amount of money.

"She says she got scared and threw the money bag down, and he picked it up and left with it," said Preece

The Dollar General store is right across the street from a firehouse, and firemen there at the time said it happened so fast it was hard to get a good description of the man.

"Didn't really see much. Just a boy running off toward the hold down there, 292 hold. Got in a little car and took off," said Olen Hutchinson.

Officials said the robber appeared to be about 5'6" wearing a blue bandana on his face.

Hutchinson said the car was a silver Honda, and he said he really is not surprised by the robbery.

"Mostly about drugs and stealing. It's going to get worse, sure is. Just hope and pray everybody locks their doors," he said.

Police do not have any suspects at this time. They are asking anyone with information to call the Martin County Sheriff's Department.
