Words of warning for summer travelers

If you're going on vacation this Memorial Day Weekend one thing might be in the back of your mind - bed bugs. The Northern Kentucky-Cincinnati area is one of the top areas in the nation when it comes to bed bug complaints.

In Lexington, the health department gets about 30 complaints a month, that's an average of one call every night.

"A lot of times people think bed bugs will only affect lower income and that's simply not the case. Bed bugs don't ask for tax returns. They go all across Lexington. They're in every zip code, they're in every area code around Central Kentucky," explains LFCHD Communication Officer Kevin Hall.

Hall recommends you check between mattresses and around headboards before laying down on a hotel bed.

The Fayette County Health Department says 19 of Lexington's 56 hotels had bed bug complaints in the last year.
