PRESTONSBURG, Ky. (WYMT) - Local leaders from throughout the Big Sandy region came together on Friday in Prestonsburg for a free workshop. The 'Tools for Supporting Local Businesses for Economic Resiliency' workshop was put on by the International Economic Development Council.
The IEDC put on the workshop with a grant to help regions impacted by a disaster in the 2011 fiscal year.
Chamber of commerce officials say the workshop goes hand in hand with the SOAR initiative.
Jacob Colley, with the Southeast Kentucky Chamber of Commerce says, "It is all about a regional approach. You can see different chambers of commerce here, people from throughout the region, all here in the training learning about how they can help their small businesses; retain business, expand business within the region."
Representatives from IEDC attended the SOAR Summit in Pikeville back in December. Local leaders say they are grateful for their help and presence in their region
