World War II Veteran dies following short illness

An Eastern Kentucky man, who served in World War II and was a prisoner of war, has died.

The Lexington Herald Leader reports James Horton Junior died Friday at Saint Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead following a brief illness.

Horton grew up in Morgan County and was drafted into the Army in 1943 at the age of 20.

He became a member of the elite Army Rangers and was captured by German soldiers in 1944.

Visitation for Horton starts Monday afternoon at five at the Lane Stucky Gray Funeral Home in Morehead.

His funeral is Tuesday at two, also at the funeral home.

James Horton Junior was 89 years old.
