Box fans given away by church members

HAZARD, Ky. (WYMT) - Yard sales are a summertime staple here in the mountains, but some folks in Hazard held a "reverse yard sale" today to serve the community.

The event was held by Summit Community Church, as part of their "Be the Change" program, at the Sherman Neace Athletic Center. Folks could get donated clothes, toys, and blankets. Box fans were also available, and the pastor of the church, Mark Combs, says giving these fans away is important at the start of the summer.

"One of the things that we had even before this event, we had people come to us and say they heard about the fan giveaway and they need that because they have really small children. Babies and just really small children and the effect that a really warm apartment or a really warm has on them. A lot of us don't think about that," Pastor Combs said.

T.wo hundred fifty more box fans will be given away tomorrow at the Knott County Sportsplex, starting at 3 p.m
