Ky. (WYMT) - A Hazard native will be hosting a hunting show which will mainly take place in Eastern Kentucky.
While elk hunting season approaches, a co-owner of the outdoors store Smith's Woods & Water, which is in Perry County, says sales have been going up. He also says more folks have been coming to his store from out of town.
"They were sent here and they've been here before several times. They were here for the elk and the deer population that we have," said Barrett Smith, the co-owner of Smith's Woods & Waters.
A population the host of an upcoming hunting television show called Jak'd UP Outdoors, Todd Duff, says is among the best in the country for hunting.
"We got big elk. I'm talking some monsters here," said Duff.
Todd Duff and co-host Brittany Martin will hunt and fish throughout North America, with the focus being here in Eastern Kentucky.
"I just think it's a great opportunity to be able to show our love and passion for our environment and our youth. We should get them involved in outdoors so we can pass it on from generation to generation," Duff said.
A Hazard native, Duff has been hunting since he was little.
"It's fast action. It gets your heart pounding, your adrenaline is going," said Duff.
But the excitement he gets is still the same as when he began.
Duff says as a hunting guide with the guide service he owns, Low Gap Outfitters, he has people come from as far away as Florida and New York to hunt here, in the mountains.
"They'll go to our local stores and buy supplies so it's just going to boost the area and that's why I enjoy it so well. It's because we want to bring people in here, we want to grow, we want to develop," Duff said.
And come October, people around the country will be able to experience Eastern Kentucky hunting from their own homes.
Jak'd UP Outdoors will premier Oct. 3 at 7 a.m.. It will be on the Hunt Channel on the Angel Two Network on Dish (channel 266).
