An Eastern Kentucky telephone company will close it's office in Hyden at the beginning of next year.
TDS telecom will close it's office to walk-in customers on January 29th.
With new technologies available, company officials say less than 15 percent of their customers still use the Hyden office.
A new, free self-service is now available by phone and on-line.
However, when the doors close, four people will lose their jobs.
"They are certainly eligible to look at other positions within the company or in other locations throughout the country," says TDS Telecom Spokesperson DeAnne Boegli. "But we have also given them a very generous severance package and hopefully enough time to be able to make that adjustment."
Technical response team members will remain in the community for installation and repair needs.
Also, company officials say they are in the process of setting up a payment location with a local business for customers who need to make payments in person.
