There's a new adventure for people in Kentucky to check out. Dozens came out Thursday to celebrate the opening of the state's longest zipline.

Officials in Harlan County cut the ribbon Thursday. The Black Mountain Thunder Zipline is now open for business.

Some of the lines reach speeds up to 60 miles an hour and carry you 400 feet above the ground.

"We need to take advantage of these beautiful mountains. We took advantage of coal mining roads and log roads and turned them into trails," said Ken Crider, with the Outdoor Recreation Board.

"Harlan County's adventure tourism is completely untapped, and we are working to tap into that," said Johnathan Pope, Harlan County Magistrate.

A number of visitors stopped by the attraction today, including a group of coal miners who worked the night shift and then decided to give the lines a spin.

"Yeah it was exciting. We had a few people that haven't rode it. It was good to see them ride," said Bobby Hall.

Officials say there isn't an age limit, but there is a weight limit.

You can make reservations at (606) 837-3205.
