ROWDY, Ky. (WYMT) - Police are looking for a driver who hit a Perry County woman and then drove away.

Perry County sheriff's deputies said the hit and run happened around three p.m. Tuesday on Highway 476 in Rowdy.

They said Mary Newsome was airlifted to UK hospital with serious injuries.

"The injuries she sustained, the ones that we could see, was the head trauma," deputy Bruce Fields said. "That's the reason she was flown out. She wasn't really coherent enough to say if anything else was hurting while they were working on her. But she did have severe lacerations to her head."

Fields said a man saw Newsome laying in the road and ran to a nearby grocery store to call 911.

Deputies said whoever hit her was driving a white Dodge pickup truck.

Employees at the grocery store told us Newsome lives nearby, is 29 and has two children.

Anyone with information should call the Perry County Sheriff's Office at (606)-439-4523.
