FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - A proposal to limit over-the-counter
purchases of medicines containing pseudoephedrine that was passed
by a Senate panel has been passed over on the floor of the Senate.
The sponsor, Senate Majority Leader Robert Stivers of
Manchester, said Thursday the bill's status is uncertain.
The bill passed the Senate Judiciary Committee 7-4 several hours
earlier. It would allow 3.6 grams a month and 15 grams a year to be
sold without prescription. A floor amendment by Sen. Jerry Rhoads,
D-Madisonville, would change those amounts to 7.2 and 24 grams,
respectively.
Stivers said the amended bill would not be heard on the Senate
floor Friday morning, but Rhoads and Sen. Tom Jensen, R-London,
said it was their understanding that it would be.
