More than 1,100 signed up for SOAR next month

More than 1,100 people have signed up for next month's SOAR summit in Pike County.

SOAR stands for "Shaping Our Appalachian Region."

Leaders in Eastern Kentucky launched the initiative last month to give people the opportunity to share ideas on how to move the region forward.

"I think that just shows the energy, the belief that we have in this region that we can do some very exciting things," said Ron Daley, a member of the SOAR Planning Committee.

The SOAR summit will take place December 9 in Pikeville.

Kentuckians who care about the future of Southern and Eastern Kentucky are responding to efforts to focus on the success of the region.

600 people have signed up for the Summit "Shaping our Appalachian region" or "SOAR".

Governor Steve Beshear, Representative Hal Rogers, Senate President Robert Stivers, and House Speaker Greg Stumbo announced this plan last month.

Registration remains open for anyone who wants to give their opinion.

SOAR will be held at the Eastern Kentucky Exposition Center in Pikeville on December 9th.
