LICK CREEK, Ky. (WYMT) - With 10 days remaining in our DQ Grill and Chill Countdown to Kickoff series, we travel to Lick Creek, where the East Ridge Warriors are looking to turn their program around after a winless campaign last season.
After going 5-6 in 2010, the East Ridge Warriors stumbled to 0-9 last season, but optimism remains high, especially on the defensive side of the ball where the Warriors return four of their leading tacklers.
"Our defense is, it's killer. Our d-line is amazing. Our linebackers are giving it everything they've got, 100 miles per hour," says senior cornerback Devan Ferran. "The same way with our secondary. Our corners and safeties are busting it real hard."
Youth and inexperience may cause the offense to struggle, at least early in the season, but off-season workouts have shown that the unedrclassmen are dedicated to the program and are willing to learn.
Says East Ridge head coach Brad Allen, "They've come out with a great attitude, great effort. Practice has been unreal. The boys are working hard for us. They've been dedicated in the off-season. We've had a great off-season of workouts. The kids are really understanding that they have to put in the hard work to get the results, so they've come to practice and they've been dedicated, and willing to learn and be coachable."
"They're really running just as hard as they can, just flat out sprinting. They're really listening, trying to learn," adds senior lineman John Austyn Little.
Seeing that kind of hard work and dedication from the younger players makes the upperclassmen want to work even harder to turn the program around.
"It's just to turn this program around. If we could get back to winning a .500 season this year that would be amazing for the younger guys who want to win," says Justin Bevins, a senior lineman.
The Warriors begin their rebuilding process on Friday, August 24th, on the road at Shelby Valley.
