BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - Three members of the Union women's basketball team made the 2012-13 Capital One Academic All-District College Division Team, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America, as a representative of District 4.
Seniors Lindsey Waters and Laura Perkins as well as Marah Rice eached received the honor. This is the first time either has been named to the Capital One Academic All-District Team.
A psychology major from Stearns, Ky., Waters leads the team in scoring (16.8 points per game) and rebounding (9.2 rebounds per game). She leads the Appalachian Athletic Conference in double-doubles with seven and ranks second in NAIA Division II in total blocks (72) and third in blocks per game (3.429).
An athletic training major from Myra, Ky., Perkins is averagine 5.3 points and 2.7 rebounds per game this season. She also has 45 assists and scored a season-high 16 points against St. Andrews (N.C.) on Nov. 28.
A mass communications major from Scottsville, Ky., Rice is averaging 2.9 points and 1.3 rebounds per game this season. She netted a season-high 10 points against Columbia (S.C.) on Jan. 12 and has dished out 20 assists on the year.
Waters, Perkins and Rice are three of 12 players named to the Capital One Academic All-District 4 College Division Team. District 4 is made up of NAIA and two-year schools from Arkansas, Kentucky, Louisiana and Tennessee.
The Lady Bulldog trio will now move on the national ballot, which will be voted on my a select panel of CoSIDA members by Feb. 12.
Union is 15-8 on the year and 8-5 in conference play. The Lady Bulldogs play host to Virginia Intermont on Saturday. The AAC contest is set to tip at 4 p.m.
