#3 Tigers heading to state for the first time since 2001

HAZARD Ky. (WYMT) - When Robert Marcum and his #3 Clay County Tigers defeated Mike Jones and his #10 Harlan County Black Bears Saturday for a trip to Rupp Arena and the Sweet 16, the team donned a 13th region championship tee shirt which read "Back on Top".

This is significant because this is the first time the Tigers have gone to state since the 2000-2001 season. Ironically enough, Mike Jones was the head coach of those Tigers. So betting back on top was extremely emotional.

The Tigers head to state peeking at the right time. Since the WYMT Mountain Basketball Classic, they have won 15 straight games.

Now the Tigers will meet up with another mountain team as they will take on #2 Knott Central in the first round of the tournament.

And the way these Tigers are currently playing, they will be tough to stop in Lexington.
