KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Union College placed three of its athletic programs on the NAIA Scholar Team list, which included 741 teams from nearly 300 NAIA member institutions.
The Lady Bulldog basketball team led the way for Union's scholar teams, posting a 3.19 grade-point average in the 2011-12 academic year, edging the women's swimming program, which finished with a 3.12 GPA. Also making the list for Union was the men's swimming team, which recorded a 3.07 GPA.
The women's basketball team is coached by Tim Curry, who will begin his 12th season this winter. Meanwhile, Rafael Forti coaches both the men's and women's swimming programs and will begin his eighth year at the helm this winter.
For a team to be considered for the NAIA Scholar Team award, it must have a minimum 3.0 grade-point average (on a 4.0 scale) as defined by the institution. The team grade-point average includes all varsity student-athletes certified as eligible.
