MCKENZIE, Tenn. – Union College dropped a 68-63 game to Martin Methodist (Tenn.) College Saturday in overtime on the final day of the Rotary Club Classic hosted by Bethel (Tenn.) College. The overtime game was the first of the season for the Bulldogs.
The end of regulation saw the score tied at 60 apiece and Martin Methodist jumped out to the five-point advantage and the victory.
Union was led by Michael Hester (Independence, Ky.) and his career-best 17 points. He also led the team with four assists.
Beau Brown (Athens, Tenn.) added 12 points while James Johnson (Lexington, Ky.) accounted for 11 points.
Sophomore Bill Davis (Harrodsburg, Ky.) grabbed a career-high 11 rebounds. It was his first double-digit rebound total of his two-year career.
Will Shackleford led all scorers and Martin Methodist with 20 points. The trio of Jacob McKissack, Aubre Bodison and Julius Virgo all scored 10 points apiece.
The Bulldogs made 48.9 percent (23-for-47) of their shots from the field. On the other side, Martin Methodist made 39.1 percent (25-for-64) of the shots. Union also made six 3-point baskets which is the first time the Bulldogs have made more than an opponent this season.
Union trailed after the opening half 38-29 which marked the largest halftime deficit of the season.
After the game, Union moved to 0-5 on the season. Martin Methodist went to 4-0.
Next on the schedule for Union is a trip to play in the Joe B. and Denny Classic hosted by Indiana University Southeast. The Bulldogs play the University of Cincinnati-Clermont (Ohio) Friday at 8 p.m.
