#5 Railsplitters Tame Bobcats, 86-54

BANNER ELK, N.C. --Four players scored in double figures to lead the No. 5 Lincoln Memorial University men's basketball team to an 86-54 win over Lees-McRae College on Saturday afternoon in Williams Gymnasium.

Lincoln Memorial (3-0) shot 50.8 percent from the floor on the afternoon, including a 54.5 percent clip in the first half, while holding Lees-McRae (0-4) to a field goal percentage of 28.1 percent in the game. The Railsplitters won the battle on the glass by a 52-34 margin, including a 38-24 edge on the defensive boards, while outscoring the Bobcats by a 38-18 tally in the paint.

Jake Troyli poured in a game-high 14 points to pace the Railsplitters, as Desmond Johnson and Brandon Armstrong each posted 12 markers. Vincent Bailey added 11 points as Johnson chipped in 10 rebounds to post a double-double. Armstrong also dished out a game-high five assists for LMU.

DJ Brown led the way for Lees-McRae with 12 points on 4-of-7 shooting, all from behind the arc, as Daniel Sepokas and Will Lopez added 11 and 10 markers, respectively. Sepokas paced the Bobcats with four assists, as Lopez and Asad Lamot added seven and six rebounds, respectively.

The Bobcats hung with the Railsplitters for the first several minutes of the game, taking an early 5-2 lead on a Lamot layup at the 18:32 mark before LMU responded, launching a 27-8 run over the next eight minutes to claim a 29-13 advantage on a triple by Wally Jones with 10:26 to go in the half. Lincoln Memorial continued to dictate play over the final 10 minutes of the period, closing out the half with a 16-10 spurt to take a 45-23 lead into the intermission.

Lees-McRae started to rally early in the second half, cutting the lead to 47-30 on a Brown triple before Lincoln Memorial responded with a 20-3 surge, pushing the margin to 67-33 on a three-pointer by Armstrong at the 8:39 mark. The Railsplitters would hold on from there, outscoring the Bobcats by a 16-12 margin over the final seven minutes of the game.
The Railsplitters will take some time off for Thanksgiving before hosting the LMU DeBusk/Burchett Holiday Classic next Friday and Saturday. Carson Newman will face Hiwassee at 6 p.m. Friday, followed by LMU and OSU-Mansfield at 8 p.m. Saturday will have Carson-Neman and OSU-Mansfield at 2 p.m. followed by the Railsplitters taking on Hiwassee at 4 p.m.
