#5 Somerset and #6 Breathitt County Preview

This Friday night offers plenty of key coverage area match-ups.

One of the biggest is the #5 Somerset Briar Jumpers heading to Holcomb country to battle #6 Breathitt County.

Last week, Coach Robbie Lucas’ squad was able to squeak past Hazard 14-0 on the road, .but the atmosphere in Jackson...as Coach Lucas says...is a whole other level.

"Down there is a tough place to play,” Lucas says. “I think my kids told me after the first series that they couldn't hear the snap count and I've never been to a high school stadium where you couldn't hear the snap count. So we had to make some adjustments. The atmosphere is good. It's a great program down there. I really expect them to make a lot of noise in 3A this year. Very well coached. We've got our hands full. I don't know if people realize that. We're a work in progress. They're a much more veteran team. I think the roles were reversed last year. We were the veteran team. They were a little young. The roles are reversed and they've got some very good players."

Over on the riverbank, the #6 Bobcats remember last year's region final well. Breathitt forced six turnovers in this game but came up short losing to the Jumpers 29-26.

Coach Mike Holcomb says he defense will need to step it up again, especially against Somerset’s super-utility man, Alex Lange.

"Just try to keep him corralled in I guess and you know you got to tackle him. What I’ve seen on film, he breaks a lot of tackles, runs hard. He's a hardnosed kid, him and Richard (Trent) are real similar because he plays up on the defensive end sometimes he's a linebacker on defense. He just looks like a real hardnosed kid and a kid you have a lot of respect for.">
