On the night of Feb 21st, 2007 the Lady Commodores of Perry County Central lost one of their key players, Kristen Madden to a knee injury. Kristen was only 11 points away from breaking the all time school record for points set by Polly Sebastian. That record stands at 1,997. Later that week, Kristen found out that she tore her ACL, PCL, and Miniscus ligaments in her right knee ending her season.
After speaking with Lady Commodores Coach Randy Napier he said, "she's probably handled this better than I have...Kristen was apologizing to the team for letting them down and telling me how sorry she was that she could not be there. She's just handled this, probably with more maturity than I have."
Kristen also explains what her first thoughts were when she went down with the injury, ""it scared me to death more than anything just because, everything was going through my head like am I going to play again, am I going to be out for the rest of the season or next year. All that stuff, its scary..."
The Lady Commodor fans showed their support on Thursday night for the game against Leslie County as they all wore white shirts with the number thirty three on them. The fans were not the only ones wearing the number thirty three for that game. The team also wrote the number on their sneakers.
Kristen is eager to get back onto the court as she wants to persue a career in the college ranks. Kristen is looking forward to beginning her rehab so she can get back onto the court for next season.
Kristen is still deciding on what college she would like to attend, however she would love to play for the Lady Mountaneers of Berea College.
