BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - Union College released its 2010 football schedule, and there are few new wrinkles, announced Bulldog coach Tommy Reid.
Union will play an 11-game schedule for the first time since 2008, but that is by far not the biggest change. For starters, the Bulldogs and longtime rival University of the Cumberlands (Ky.) are now members of the Mid-South Conference West Division with Kentucky Christian University and Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) College joining the MSC East. Each division has seven members with Lambuth (Tenn.) University being dropped from the league.
Also in the MSC West with Union and Cumberlands are Bethel (Tenn.) College, Belhaven (Miss.) College, Faulkner (Ala.) University, Cumberland (Tenn.) University and Shorter (Ga.) College.
Making up the MSC East are Georgetown (Ky.) College, Kentucky Christian, Lindsey Wilson, Campbellsville (Ky.) University, UVa-Wise, Pikeville (Ky.) College and West Virginia Tech.
Absent from Union's schedule is Georgetown, marking the first time since 1985 the two teams haven't played each other.
The Bulldogs open the season at home against Campbellsville on Sept. 4 in a MSC cross-divisional game. Other cross-divisional opponents include Kentucky Christian (Sept. 11), UVa-Wise (Sept. 25) and Lindsey Wilson (Oct. 16).
Union's first MSC West contest is set for Oct. 2 at Cumberlands, and Homecoming is slated for Oct. 23 against Belhaven.
The Bulldogs will also face NCAA Division I Wofford (S.C.) University on Sept. 18 at 7 p.m.
In all, Union will play five home games and six road dates.
