PIKEVILLE, Ky. – Two members of the 15th Region All “A” Classic titlists have signed scholarships to play basketball and continue their educations at Pikeville College.
Megan Hamilton, a 5-6 guard, and Lindsey Martin, a 5-8 forward, signed scholarship agreements in a ceremony this morning at Betsy Layne High School.
“These two young ladies obviously know what it takes to win,” said Coach Bill Watson of Pikeville College. “We believe in them and are glad to welcome them to our campus community and to our women’s basketball family at Pikeville College.”
Hamilton scored 2,145 points in her career as a Bobcat. She was named to the 58th District All-Tournament and All-Conference team five times, was the 58th District player of the year three times and was the 2010 15th Region player of the year.
Hamilton, who was invited to try out for the Kentucky/Indiana all-star game, averaged 18.9 points, 5.4 rebounds, 4.1 steals and 3.2 assists per game for Betsy Layne this season.
Martin finished her career with 867 points. She was also a five-time member of the 58th District All-Tournament and All-Conference teams. She participated in the East Kentucky All-Star game at Lees College in Jackson and was the 2010 winner of the Judy Eversole Award, which is based on athletic ability as well as community service and academic performance.
In their time at Betsy Layne, Hamilton and Martin led Betsy Layne to four 58th District titles, both for the regular season and the tournament. They also played in the semifinals of the 15th Region tournament three times.
