BETSY LAYNE, Ky (WYMT) - Betsy Layne girls basketball coach Devon Akers resigned Monday night.
She spent 4 seasons as the head coach & finished with a 71-38 record.
Coach Akers and her Betsy Layne Lady Cats were also undefeated within the district during her tenure.
She leaves a perfect 42-0 within the 58th district.
In a heartfelt statement, this is what coach Akers had to say about her decision:
"My decision to resign was based on my family, and what I felt I needed to do as a mother. Coaching girls basketball was always something I wanted to do. Having the opportunity to do it where I played as a high school player was a dream come true. I feel so blessed to have had this opportunity. The relationships I have made over the past 4 years at Betsy layne will be some I will never forget.
My team along with past players have become part of my family and I love them all. They have made a huge impact on my life. The support system at Betsy Layne is like no other and is a big part of the success our team was able to have.
The principal, assistant principals, athletic director, all coaches and teachers are behind the girls and students in all sports, and it really is something special to be apart of.
I love my team, assistants and everyone involved dearly and will miss being their coach. I will always be a Ladycat and will continue to support our team and school.
I thank God for this opportunity and I will cherish every moment spent as the Betsy Lady Cat head coach."
