FLOYD COUNTY, Ky, (WYMT) Hundreds of friends and family gathered at Allen Central High School to remember the life of a teenager who died earlier this week.

Trey Aldrich, 16, played football and baseball for the Rebels, but teammates and coaches say he'll be remembered for much more than his athletic ability.

"It didn't matter if we were down ten or up ten," said Dillon Lawson, a Senior at ACHS and baseball teammate, "He was the man to pick us up. He always had a smile on his face and he never was down."

Coaches say that same smile could be felt on the gridiron.

"If you ever came to watch a football game you'd be able to pick him out because his smile," said Head Coach Jeremy Hall, "He was unbelievable."

A young teammate who players say already served as a role model.

"You're not guaranteed to wake up every morning," said ACHS Senior and football teammate Dalton Lawson, "Trey was the kind of guy that lived by that. And everything that Trey did, he did it with the best of his ability."

Leaving a close-knit team to mourn together, but missing one key piece.

"We're facing a really daunting battle," said Coach Hall, "They're really picking each other up and leaning on each other."

"Every single time that we step in this school and on either field...it's all for you," said Dillon Lawson, "Everything."

Days after his death, the Rebels say they know #15 will always be in one place.

"The next day when he (Coach Hall) called roll and said Trey's name... we all said 'Here!'" said Dalton Lawson, "Because we know he's here with us. And when we step on the field, and every time we step in between those lines, we know Trey is going to be with us."

The cause of death is still unknown.
