WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. - The University of the Cumberlands (UC) volleyball team has been a team on a mission this offseason in recruiting. The Patriots are trying to replace some key members of a team that went 17-12 and was in contention in almost every single conference game last season. The Patriots hope their latest addition will be able to help them make that hurdle into one of the top teams in the Mid-South Conference (MSC) with the signing of Morgan Allen.
Allen comes to UC from Lafayette High School in Lexington, KY, where she will be graduating later this month. Morgan is the daughter of Paul and Helen Allen. The 5'8" outside hitter and defensive specialist hopes to replace the void left by the two senior hitters Megan Schulte (Beavercreek, OH) and Kelsey Eastham (Ostrandor, OH). She could also help defensively in a D/S position that is losing fellow Lexington native Abby Dundon (Lexington, KY). A versatile player like Allen is just what Coach Kathryn Hart is looking for in her team as she continues to build for the future.
Morgan commented on her decision to attend Cumberlands saying, “I am more than excited to have the opportunity to play volleyball at UC. It really is a blessing to be able to continue playing a sport I love at such a great university like Cumberlands.”
Head Coach Kathryn Hart loves the signing of Allen and was thrilled to get her 3rd signing of the year. She commented on Allen, "Morgan is a great addition to this recruiting class. She is an all-around player, aggressive, and extremely hard working. We are so excited to have her join our program.”
It will be an interesting season for the Patriots as they continue their growth as one of the younger programs in the MSC. Now, 9 of the 13 players on the roster for UC will be a sophomore or younger, but Coach Hart is continuing to build the Patriots into one of the better teams in the MSC.
