ROCK HILL, SC -- Andre Rodriguez was named the South Atlantic Conference Baseball Player of the Week, the league office announced on Tuesday. Rodriguez will add this to the week's tally which included being crowned with Railsplitter of the Week honors on Monday morning.
Rodriguez, a 5'11 senior hailing from Las Piedras, Puerto Rico, was named the SAC Player of the Week after leading the Railsplitters to a 3-1 week, including a 2-1 series victory over league-foe Anderson over the weekend. Rodriguez compiled a .444 batting average over that span with eight hits, eight RBI, two doubles and a triple.
Andre started the week by playing a pivotal role in the Railsplitters' 12-5 victory over the University of Virginia-Wise this past Tuesday, as the senior tallied three RBI on a one-for-four day at the plate.
On Friday, the Railsplitters were dealt a 9-7 loss to the Trojans in the SAC opener, however, Rodriguez went four-for-five at the dish with a double, a triple and two RBI. He continued to flourish offensively on Saturday, as he went two-for-five in game one and one-for-four in game two. In that two-game stretch, Andre compiled three runs, three RBI and a double to lead the 'Splitters to a pair of victories in Anderson, South Carolina.
At this juncture, Andre is carrying a .340 mark at the plate with a .426 slugging percentage. He is tied for the team lead with 16 hits and sits atop the Railsplitters' stat ledger with 11 RBI this season. He also has a team-high 20 total bases to his credit.
