HARROGATE, TN -- Andre Rodriguez has been named the Railsplitter of the Week for the week ending on February 17th, the Lincoln Memorial University athletic department announced Monday morning.
Rodriguez, a 5'11" senior hailing from Las Piedras, Puerto Rico, earned this honor after leading the Railsplitters to three wins and only one loss this past week. Among those three wins, the Railsplitters grabbed a pair of wins over Anderson University to clinch the first South Atlantic Conference series of the season.
Andre opened the week by driving in three runs and reaching base safely twice en route to a decisive 12-5 victory over the University of Virginia-Wise.
That was just the beginning of an extremely productive week for the middle infielder, as Rodriguez was the offensive catalyst for the Railsplitters' series victory over the Anderson University Trojans this past weekend. Despite suffering a 9-7 loss in the opener on Friday evening, Rodriguez came through for the 'Splitters with a four-for-five performance that included a double, a triple, two RBIs and a run.
Those offensive numbers continued on Saturday, as Rodriguez helped propel the Railsplitters to 11-2 and 10-4 victories over the Trojans to capture the series. In the opener, Andre notched a two-for-five outing with a double, two RBIs and two runs. Rodriguez capped the weekend by posting a one-for-four effort with an RBI and a run in the finale.
In total, Rodriguez finished this past week with eight hits in 18 plate appearances with eight RBIs, two doubles, one triple and four runs. Over that four game span, the senior increased his batting average from .273 to .340. He is currently tied for the team lead with 16 hits, while leading the team with 11 RBIs. Rodriguez holds a .426 slugging percentage and a .367 on-base percentage.
The Railsplitters moved to 4-7 overall and 2-1 in the SAC after their effort this past week. They are set to return to the field on Tuesday afternoon, as the 'Splitters are poised to travel to Louisville, Kentucky for a two-game set at Bellarmine University. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
