Andre Rodriguez Named NCBWA All-Southeast Region First Team

WILSON, NC -- Lincoln Memorial University's Andre Rodriguez added to his resume this season as he garnered 2012 NCBWA Division II All-Southeast Region First Team distinctions, announced by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association on Thursday afternoon in conjunction with the start of the NCAA Southeast Regional Tournament.

The Las Piedras, Puerto Rico native grabs this honor after being named to the All-South Atlantic Conference First Team at the conclusion of the regular season. He was named NCBWA All-Southeast Region First Team for his play at second base. This season, in his first year at Lincoln Memorial University, Rodriguez compiled eye-popping numbers. He led the Railsplitters with a .414 batting average and reached base in nearly half of his at-bats, notching a .494 on-base percentage. His batting average ranked second in the South Atlantic Conference, 19th nationally and secured a place in the LMU record books, as that average ranks third on the list for single-season records in school history. His on-base mark was good for fifth in the SAC this season and placed him fifth on the list for single-season records in LMU baseball history.

He also recorded a team-high 60 hits that included 12 doubles and five home runs to round out a team-high .600 slugging percentage. His stat sheet was bolstered by 30 runs, 27 RBIs and 22 walks.
There were many highlights in Rodriguez's impressive debut for the Railsplitters but his 4-5, three-RBI performance against Carson-Newman College at Smokies Park that included a home run stood out most clearly. He posted a 3-5 outing with a pair of doubles and three runs against Brevard College on March 31st. In total, Rodriguez had 15 multi-hit games this season. He closed the year out with a three-hit day that included two doubles against Catawba College on
April 14th.

Twelve players from South Atlantic Conference schools joined Rodriguez as 2012 NCBWA All-Southeast Region selections. Tusculum College's Craig Goodman was placed on the First Team along with garnering Region Pitcher of the Year honors. Tusculum's Cade Stallings and Wingate University's Casey Allison also picked
up First Team distinctions.

South Atlantic Conference Player of the Year Kyle Koeneman was
named to the Second Team along with Catawba College's Garrett Furr and JJ Jankowski.

Brett Scarberry (Anderson), Josh McElwee (Newberry), Alexi Colon (Tusculum), John-Austin Shepard (Tusculum), Jacob Karr (Wingate) and Ethan Satterfield (Catawba) were named Honorable Mention All-Southeast Region.

Mount Olive's Jacob Rogers and Armstrong Atlantic's Zach Taylor shared Player of the Year honors.

The NCBWA All-Southeast Region Team is selected by a vote of a
panel of the region's sportswriters, sportscasters and sports information directors that cover Division II baseball.
