WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. - The University of the Cumberlands (UC) baseball program once again concluded a solid season in 2013-14 with a record of 31-23. With numerous players earning honors on and off the field this year, two more Patriots earned the highest athletic honors this week from the NAIA.
The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) has announced that 257 baseball student-athletes have been named 2014 Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes. The award is handed out annually to the most outstanding student athletes in the NAIA. The program recognizes excellence in the classroom while competing in the sport of baseball. UC's Donovan Feenstra (Calgary, Canada) and Alberto Mejia-Morrovel (Santo Dominbo, Dominican Republic) earned spots on the prestigious list.
In order to be nominated by an institution's head coach or sports information director, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and must have achieved a junior academic status. Both Feenstra and Mejia were also named to the MSC Academic All-Conference team in both 2014.
