PIKEVILLE, Ky. – The University of Pikeville women’s basketball team has added a Tennessee product to its roster for next season.
Jessica Shirk, a 5-10 senior at McMinn County High School in Athens, Tenn., has signed a scholarship agreement to play basketball and continue her education at UPIKE.
Shirk, a four-year varsity player for the Cherokees, averaged seven points and six rebounds per game while nailing 74 percent of her free throws and picking up 1.5 steals per game last season. She was named co-most valuable player for the season.
She led the Cherokees in rebounding each of the last two seasons.
“Jessica is long and athletic, the kind of player we feel can be successful on the collegiate level,” said Coach Bill Watson. “Her IQ for basketball is very high, and we’re excited about adding her to our family here at Pikeville.”
Shirk was a 31 percent shooter from the arc as a senior.
