LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- UVa.-Wise junior Deon Boyce is the Mid-South Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week, conference officials announced on Monday.
The conference weekly award is Boyce's second of the season and of his career. He also picked up the award on Jan. 14.
In his only game last week, Boyce scored 20 points and grabbed 24 rebounds to help the host Cavaliers to a 64-63 win over Bluefield.
The Jacksonville, N.C., forward finished one rebound shy of matching the Cavaliers' program-record for rebounds in a single game. Boyce has the top-five rebounding efforts this season in the Mid-South, including reaching 24 boards three times and 23 rebounds once.
Boyce made seven of his nine shots from the field en route to his third 20-plus point performance of the season. Boyce has played in only eight games since joining the team in January.
In his eight games, Boyce is averaging 14.8 points and 17.8 rebounds per outing.
With its win, UVa.-Wise improves to 10-8 overall and 6-7 in the Mid-South Conference.
The next men's basketball player of the week award is scheduled to be announced on Monday, Feb. 11.
