Brake, Juarbe earn all-conference team honors

KINGSPORT, Tenn. – Seniors Tyler Brake (Burlington, Ky.) and Gabby Juarbe (San Juan, P.R.) both earned a spot on the 2013 All-Appalachian Athletic Conference Baseball Team, which was unveiled Tuesday at the conference tournament.

In addition to making the All-AAC Team, Brake and Juarbe made the nine-person Gold Glove Team.

Union received the Champions of Character Award.

Brake, a first baseman, is batting .337 with 12 doubles, nine home runs and 46 RBIs. He has scored 44 runs and owns a .572 slugging percentage and .474 on-base percentage. Brake set the program record for most doubles in a game with four against Georgetown (Ky.) on April 9.

Defensively, Brake has a .990 fielding percentage with only four errors in 408 total chances with 388 putouts and 16 assists.

Juarbe, a catcher, is hitting .325 with 12 doubles, a triple, seven home runs and 47 RBIs. He has a slugging percentage of .540 and an on-base percentage of .407.

Defensively, Juarbe boasts a .991 fielding percentage with only two errors in 221 total chances. He has 191 putouts and 28 assists. Juarbe has gunned down 17-of27 would-be base stealers on the season.

Union had five players make the All-Academic Team. Earning the honor are: Zach Dillman (Cincinnati, Ohio), Blake King (Hindman, Ky.), Justin King (Barbourville, Ky.), Corey Nicholson (Manchester, Ky.) and Vance Sullivan (Verona, Ky.).

The Bulldogs (30-21 overall) are currently participating in the AAC Tournament at Hunter Wright Stadium in Kingsport, Tenn.
