STARKVILLE, MS -- The honors continue to pile up for sophomore Brianna Mulkey, as she was named NFCA Division II All-Southeast Region Second Team. This announcement came from the National Fastpitch Coaches Association on Thursday afternoon.
This award adds to Mulkey's impressive campaign as she was named All-South Atlantic Conference First Team late in the season and Daktronics All-Southeast Region Second Team earlier this week. The Kettering, Ohio native has become no stranger to these awards as she was placed on the All-South Atlantic Conference Second Team following her freshman season.
Mulkey was a stable force for the Lady 'Splitters all season, as she played in 45 of the team's 46 games, starting 44 of those. In the all-important center field position, she tallied a .948 fielding percentage with 49 putouts and six assists.
At the dish, she compiled a .302 batting average and a .366 on-base percentage. Her 39 hits ranked her second on the Lady Railsplitters' squad this season.
Mulkey was the most dynamic player in the South Atlantic Conference when she reached base safely, as she led the conference with 27 stolen bases in a mere 29 attempts. After only two seasons at LMU, Mulkey ranks third on the all-time list for steals in school history with 66. Her stolen base percentage of .904 also ranks third all-time at LMU. Mulkey ranked 22nd nationally in that category with 0.6 steals per contest.
Brianna is the first player to be named to the NFCA All-Region team for Lincoln Memorial University softball since the 2004 season.
She was joined on the list by three players from the South Atlantic Conference as Lenoir-Rhyne University placed Haily Jarman on the First Team with Sarah Atkins and Jessica Fellmeth getting the Second Team nod.
NFCA member coaches in each of the eight regions selected this year's All-Region teams and all honorees are now eligible to be selected to one of three All-American teams.
The 2012 NFCA Division II All-American teams will be announced on
NFCA.org on the evening of Wednesday, May 16th.
