Bruce Wong Signs On With The Railsplitters

HARROGATE, TN -- Bruce Wong has signed a National Letter of Intent (NLI) to play baseball at Lincoln Memorial University next season, Railsplitters' head coach Jeff Sziksai announced Monday morning. The Railsplitters have had a busy offseason as Wong's addition brings the total to 13 new players for the 2013 season. LMU will look to replace five seniors from last year's squad.

Bruce Wong comes to the Railsplitters following a two-year stay at St. Petersburg College and a prep career at Sunlake High School in Land O'Lakes, Florida. Listed at 6'1" and 190 pounds, Wong is a right-handed pitcher with college experience that will be looked upon to have an immediate impact on the mound for the Railsplitters. In his career, Wong compiled strong numbers as he was ranked seventh in the state of Florida in strikeouts per inning. This season, Wong appeared in 17 games, tossing 28.2 innings. Over that span, he allowed only six earned runs and 13 hits while striking out 33 batters. He completed the season with a 1.88 earned run average and a 3-1 mark.

Wong's talents were pursued by Appalachian State, Wayne State, Belmont Abbey, Florida Tech, Eckerd and Newberry College before the Florida native decided to head to Lincoln Memorial University to continue his athletic and academic career. When asked why he chose LMU, Wong stated, "I chose to sign with LMU because of the opportunity to make a big contribution to a baseball team hoping to reach the D2 World Series."

"Bruce is another pitcher that has had tremendous success at the junior college level," said LMU head coach Jeff Sziksai. "He has a chance to fill a variety of roles for us from starter to closer. He floods the zone with three pitches, and has a knack for striking batters out. In addition to being a quality pitcher, Bruce is also a good student. He is a great sign for us and we are happy to have him."

The Railsplitters' roster looks to be rounding into form with 13 new additions for the 2013 campaign as LMU will look to compete for a South Atlantic Conference title, a region title and beyond.
