MILLIGAN, TENN. - Host Milligan College avenged its only loss of the season on Tuesday by sweeping visiting UVa-Wise in a double-header. The Buffaloes (7-1) posted a 11-4 victory in game one before dropping the Cavaliers (3-6) 10-1 in the finale.
The Cavaliers were unable to get the sticks going against Milligan College after having a week of rest from the club's last game at Lincoln Memorial. The Buffaloes took advantage of 14 hits and scored 11 runs en route to an 11-4 victory in the first game of the double header.
Milligan jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning as starter Cody Compton gave up two runs on three hits in one inning of work. The Buffaloes then went on to score nine more runs in the game with five hitters having multi-hit and multi-RBI games.
For the Cavs, Tommy Meir extended his hitting streak to eight games going 1-3 as the squad had only one hitter with multiple hits; Nick Impellizzeri went 2-2 in the game.
Cody Compton (0-1) suffered the loss, as Justin Johnson(1-0) pitched four innings giving up seven hits and only three earned runs in collecting the win..
Milligan busted open game two of the double-header early by striking for nine runs in the first three innings. UVa-Wise's only run of the contest came in the fourth inning when Brett Hylton lined an RBI double to score Ryan Apodaca who had entered the game as a courtesy runner.
Two innings later, the Buffaloes added a single run for the final margin of victory, 10-1.
Meier collected two hits in the game for UVa-Wise to extend his hitting streak to nine games. Travis Weaver (0-1) was charged with the mound loss while Jake Watts (2-0) tossed five innings of one run baseball to secure the victory.
The Cavs will return to action on Friday when the team kicks off Mid-South play at Lindsey Wilson College.
