Bulldogs miss chances, Bruins take series lead

OMAHA, Ne. - Game one of the College World Series finals was a story of missed opportunities for the Mississippi State Bulldogs, who now must win two games to win the program's first national championship.

John Cohen's team left eight runners on base in the 3-1 loss, and sloppy defense led to two unearned UCLA runs, and that kind of game played right into the hands of the Bruins.

"It was kind of a Bruin game; tight game," says UCLA head coach John Savage. "And at the end of the night we were fortunate to come out of it with a win."

"Crazy things happen in sports," adds Cohen. "That's why you play a best of three (series) instead of a one game, winner-take-all."
