Bulldogs roll past SAU, 4-1, on senior day

BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - The Union College women's soccer team scored three goals in the second half to blow past St. Andrews (N.C.), 4-1, in Appalachian Athletic Conference play on Saturday at Bulldog Field.

With the win, Union moved to 5-10 overall, 4-5 in the AAC, while St. Andrews fell to 5-11, 3-6 in the AAC with the loss.

The match was Union's final home match of the 2013 regular season, as the program honored their lone senior Danielle Gilbert before kick-off.
In the first half, the Bulldogs cracked a scoreless tie in the 27th minute as Aline Dalmedico scored off a Helen Weber pass at the top of the box to take a 1-0 lead. The lead held through the rest of the period, as the Bulldogs went into the half up a goal.

In the second half, Union put the match away quickly, scoring three goals over four minutes to go up 4-0.

The first came in the 53rd minute, as Weber got in on the act scoring off a Dalmedico pass, giving Union a 2-0 edge. Three minutes and one second later, Kayla Langen gave Union a 3-0 lead after knocking home a shot in the box, set up by a Morgan Hiles pass.

The third and final goal of the flurry came one minute and two seconds later, as Dalmedico scored her second goal of the afternoon, unassisted, to give Union an insurmountable four-score lead.

St. Andrews finally got on the scoreboard in the 89th minute, as Union coasted down the stretch for the three-goal home AAC victory.
Overalll, St. Andrews actually outshot Union in the match, 25-20, and held a 7-4 edge on corner kicks. However, the Union defense kept St. Andrews off the board most of the match, as starting goalie Kendall Ellington made six saves in 69 minutes of play. Back-up Taylor Hamms played the last 21 minutes of the match, and stopped three shots.

By the Numbers
• With her two-goal day, Dalmedico has now scored 14 of the 26 goals Union has posted on the 2013 season. The junior has now already surpassed her goals scored total from a season ago, as she notched 12 goals in 2012.
• Weber scored her fifth goal of the season in the victory and added her fourth assist. She has now scored 27 goals and recorded 12 assists in her three-year career.
• Langen scored her second career goal in the victory, while Hiles recorded the first assist of her career on the play.
• Union is now 2-0 against St. Andrews all-time, as they beat the Knights on the road last season in their first meeting, 2-1.

Union concludes their 2013 regular season on Nov. 2, traveling to Bryan (Tenn.) for an AAC match. Things get underway at 7 p.m.
