MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. - The Union baseball team split an Appalachian Athletic Conference doubleheader to host Milligan (Tenn.) on Friday, dropping the opener 6-5 in extra innings and winning the finale 6-0.

With the split, the Bulldogs are 31-20 overall and 15-8 in conference, locking up the third seed in the upcoming AAC Tournament which is set to begin Tuesday in Kingsport, Tenn. Milligan is now 25-24 overall and 13-10 in the AAC.

The teams will complete the series Saturday at 1 p.m.

Game One
The scheduled seven innings were not enough to decide the opener as Milligan rallied for two runs in the bottom of the eighth to pull out the 6-5 decision.

Union trailed the entire game before tying the score at 4-4 in the fifth when Joe Engle (Sidney, Ohio) scored thanks to a Tyler Brake (Burlington, Ky.) sac fly.

Score remained knotted until the top of the eighth when Brake led off with a solo home run. However, the 5-4 lead did not last as the Buffaloes pushed a pair of runs across in the bottom of the frame to take the win.

Brake finished the game 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Engle belted his ninth home run of the season, a two-run shot in the third.

Game Two
Union broke the scoreless tie with a three-run fourth and never looked back as Chris Fern (Zephyrhills, Fla.) and Brandon Hedrick (Corbin, Ky.) combined for the 6-0, shutout victory.

Nelson Price (Burkesville, Ky.) started the scoring with a RBI single, and Gabby Juarbe (San Juan, P.R.) followed with a two-run double in the fourth. Union tacked on runs in the fifth, sixth and seventh to seal the win.
