Calipari avoids comparing Wildcats to past teams

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WYMT) - There may be more hype about this season's Kentucky men's basketball team than ever before, but coach John Calipari is hesitant to make comparisons to teams he has had in the past.

When asked to compare this team to other highly touted teams he has had, Calipari pointed out that this Kentucky squad lacks the veteran leadership of some of his other teams, but also notes they could be one of the best in the country.

"But they were veteran teams. You're talking about an inexperienced team. We'll be the most inexperienced team in the country, but we're really talented," said Calipari during UK's Media Day on Tuesday. "We've got great size and speed and skill. Will we be a great defensive team and rebounding team, and will we share the ball? If we do that, we have a chance to be one of the best teams in the country. Are we right now? I have no idea because I don't know where anybody else is."

Coach Calipari, Matthew Mitchell, and both the men's and women's basketball teams will take to the Rupp Arena floor Friday night for Big Blue Madness. The event gets under way at 7:00 PM and you can catch live coverage on WYMT.
