Calipari must create competition for players

HAZARD, Ky. It was a big day in Hazard Thursday for a select number of Kentucky fans, as 1st Trust Bank held a "Meet the Coaches" event, and included was men's basketball coach John Calipari.

Now last year was obviously a disappointment for Cal and the Wildcats, falling to Robert Morris in the first round of the NIT. Cal says the one thing he learned was that there must be an atmosphere of competition amongst the players.

"Well the first thing you learn is you've got to create an environment of competition, which means you have to have enough guys," says Calipari. "One of the things I tried to do was protect a couple of guys on the team because it was their turn. You can't do that. I can't protect my own son or daughters from competition. That's what life is about especially in this great country that we live in."
