Governor's Cup luncheon starts football talk

The annual Governor's Cup luncheon was held on Thursday at the Cardinal Club in Simpsonville. UK football coach Joker Phillips and Louisville coach Charlie Strong were on hand to discuss the game between the two schools, which will take place Sept. 2 at Papa John's Cardinal Stadium.

The Wildcats will go into the first game of the season underdogs -- Louisville is one of the favorites to win the Big East. Kentucky was picked to finish last in the SEC East this season.

"I've been a part of this program for 30 years. We've always been the underdog," Phillips said during the luncheon. "We're exactly where we were five years ago when we had Andre' Woodson and all those good guys we had on offense."

Strong tried to downplay expectations.

"When people tell you you're not going to be very good, and that you're going to be somebody you shouldn't be, then they start thinking, 'we've arrived,' when really you haven't."
