Cats miss NCAA, will be No. 1 seed in NIT

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WYMT) - For the first time in the John Calipari-era in Lexington, the Kentucky Wildcats will not be participating in the NCAA Tournament. The Wildcats were left out of the field of 68 teams that were announced on Sunday evening.

The Cats will be a No. 1 seed in the National Invitational Tournament (NIT), and will play eight seed Robert Morris Tuesday night at 7:30pm on ESPN.

Normally, the top seed would host the first round game, but with Rupp Arena hosting the second and third rounds of the NCAA Tournament, Kentucky will have to travel to Pittsburgh and play the Colonials in their home arena, the Charles L. Sewall Center.

The Wildcats were eliminated in the 2009 NIT Elite Eight by Notre Dame, 77-67.

The other No. 1 seeds in this year's NIT are Southern Miss, Alabama, and Virginia.
