Cavalier defense stifles Buffaloes

Milligan, Tenn. - Milligan College and UVa-Wise entered Tuesday's game on two different paths. The Buffaloes entered the game on a three game winning streak while the Cavaliers entered 0-3 in search of the team's first win of the year. UVa-Wise ended the losing streak in a big way by posting a 60-38 win at the Steve Lacy Fieldhouse. Chelsea Cluesman scored 21 points and grabbed eight rebounds while Charlotte Reasor scored 11 points for the victorious Cavs.

Head Coach Kristin Kunzman's Cavs put forth their best defensive effort of the season as the Buffaloes hit just 28.1 percent of their shot attempts in the game. UVa-Wise's defense was even more impressive from the perimeter as Milligan made just three of 28 three point attempts in the non-conference match up. The Cavs also enjoyed a comfortable advantage in rebounding margin; UVa-Wise collected 46 boards compared to just 33 for Milligan. In total, eight Cavs cracked the scoring column in the game while ten players recorded a rebound.

Milligan College did not have a player score in double-figures; Johneshia Good led the team with nine points. Overall, the Buffs struggled offensively as Rich Aubrey's club turned the ball over 13 times, two of which came on shot-clock violations. As a team, Milligan shot just four free throws in the game due to a reliance on the three point shot. The Buffs attempted just one more two point field goal than three point field goal, 29-28, in the loss.

The victory improves UVa-Wise to 1-3 on the year while Milligan drops to 3-2. The Cavs will return to action on Thursday when the team travels to Lindsey Wilson for the first Mid-South game of the year. Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m. and all of the action can be heard live online at www.uvawisecavs.com.
