Cavalier Football adds 10 recruits

WISE, Va. – Head Coach Dewey Lusk and his staff have recently added 10 more signees to their 2013 football recruiting class. The 10 players consist of five linebackers, two wide receivers, a fullback, a defensive back, and a defensive tackle. UVa-Wise's most recent group of signees runs the program to 13 total commits for the upcoming season.

Dinwiddie High School's Darius Johnson finished his high school career by earning first-team all-district, first-team all-region, first-team all-metro, and second-team all-state honors. A four year starter at middle linebacker, the 5'11', 235 pound Johnson graduated with a 3.9 grade point average. Johnson is the grandson of Ralph and Emma Ruffin.

Kheleel Boatner finished a stellar high school career at Booker T. Washington this past fall. A three-sport athlete, the 5'8', 200 pound Boatner earned second-team all-district accolades during a senior season that saw him spend time at outside linebacker, fullback, and defensive end. Boatner is the son of Jermain and Tameka Boatner.
Inside linebacker Michael Tarrer was a first-team all-district and all-academic selection while playing high school ball at J.R. Tucker. The 6'2', 215 pound Tucker also earned Defensive MVP Honors for the Tigers as a senior. Tarrer is the son of Michael and Barbara Tarrer.

5'10', 185 pound Kreshawn Atkins comes to UVa-Wise after earning the Defensive Player of the Year award at Varina High School in Richmond, Va. A two year starter, Atkins also earned second-team all-district honors in 2012. Atkins is the son of Veronica Atkins.
6'0', 230 pound Ben Funny was a two-year starter at linebacker while playing at Woodbridge High School. Funny earned second-team all-district honors as a senior. Funny is the son of Sylvia Funny.

Twin brothers James and Jacob Cousins, both wide receivers, signed letters of intent to continue their playing career at UVa-Wise after successful prep careers at J.R. Tucker High School in Richmond, Va.

6'3' James Cousins started for two seasons at J.R. Tucker where he played both wide receiver and free safety. A year ago, he earned second-team all-district and second-team all-region accolades. The taller Cousins' brother also saw time at long snapper, kick returner, and punt returner.

6'2' Jacob Cousins started at wide receiver and outside linebacker where he earned second-team all-district honors. A three sport star, Jacob was also a member of the J.R. Tucker basketball team along with the school's track team. The brothers are the sons of Royal Cousins and Lisa Soto (stepmother).

James Madison High School team-captain Roosevelt Henderson finished his prep career by earning first-team all-district honors. A two-sport athlete, the 5'10', 205 pound Henderson also ran track at James Madison where he posted a 3.3 grade point average. Henderson is the son of Roosevelt and Wendy Henderson.

A two-year starter at Potomac High School, 5'10', 165 pound Jeff Parker earned team Defensive Player of the Year Honors while also earning second-team all district honors. Parker is the son of Jeff and Doris Parker.

Brandon Robeson comes to UVa-Wise after being a three-year starter on the defensive line for Stonewall Jackson High School. A year ago, Robeson played both ways as he aided the team to a 9-2 mark. Individually, he earned all-district honors on both the offensive and defensive side of the ball. The 6'3', 260 pound Robeson also was a member of the Stonewall Jackson basketball squad. He is the son of Randy and Lisa Robeson.
