Cavalier football announces initial six commitments

WISE, Va. - Head Coach Dewey Lusk and his staff announced the signing of six players on Wednesday. Tim Coulter, Andre Hamilton, Corey Hilberath, Zach Large, Kashawn Lynch and Chris White have all signed to play collegiately at UVa-Wise.

Coulter is a 6-4, 205 pound free safety from Burke, Va. During his prep career, Coulter was a two-sport athlete at Lake Braddock where he earned all-district honors in both football and lacrosse. On the gridiron, he was a two-year starter at free safety for Head Coach James Poytheris as he aided the school to a 12-1 record as a senior. He is the son of Art and Carol Coulter.

Hamilton comes to UVa-Wise after earning all-district honors as a defensive back at North Stafford High School. The 5-9, 155 pound defensive back was a three-year starter for Head Coach Joe Mangano at defensive back, wide receiver and kick returner. He is the son of LaShawn Knight.

A two-year starter for Head Coach Matt Griffis at Broad Run High School, Ashburn, Va. native Corey Hilberath comes to UVa-Wise after earning all-district honors in 2013. The 5-10, 175 pound wide receiver also saw time at running back and outside linebacker in high school. He is the son of Eric Hilberath.

Large joins the Cavaliers after earning a state title at Northside High School in 2013. While at Northside, the Roanoke, Va. native earned all-district and all-conference honors as both a punter and place kicker. In addition, Large garnered second-team all-region placekicker. Large also excelled in the classroom as he posted a 3.5 grade point average; he is the son of Jack and Sandy Large.

A 6-2, 170 pound defensive back from Kecoughtan High School, Kashawn Lynch was a three-year starter for Head Coach Alonzo Coley in the secondary. Lynch received second-team all-district accolades for his performance at safety following his senior campaign. The Hampton, Va. product is the son of Andre Lynch.

Oscar Smith High School standout Chris White comes to UVa-Wise following a prep career that saw him earn second-team all-district and second-team all-conference honors at defensive end. The 6-1, 210 pound White has been recruited to play outside linebacker for the Cavaliers. He is the son of Christopher and Nakisha White.

The Cavaliers will open the 2014 football season on the road at Urbana University on September 6.
